Pitta is the energy of digestion and metabolism. It is composed of fire and water, making it very warm and sensitive to heat and sun. It governs digestion, absorption, assimilation, nutrition, metabolism and body temperature. If you are Pitta you are probably prone to irritation your hair is very shiny, fine, silky and textured and may be thinning and or graying prematurely. Your skin may have reddish tones, or a fair complexion that is sensitive to sun. Pitta prefers the cold. When out of balance Pitta arouses anger, hatred and jealousy. When in balance Pitta promotes leadership, understanding and intelligence.
Kapha is the energy of lubrication and structure. It is composed of earth and water making it cool and moist. Kapha is the energy that holds the cells together and supplies water to the body and it’s system. If you are a Kapha you are adaptable and stable. Hair is curly, wavy, lustrous and oily. Bright complexion with lustrous skin. Kapha prefers heat, wind and sunlight. Out of balance Kapha leads to attachment, greediness or envy. When in balance, Kapha is expressed as love, calmness and forgiveness and compassion.
Vata is the subtle energy associates with movement. It is composed of space and air making it sensitive to both the cold and dryness. If you are Vata you may notice your hair is dry and brittle or frizzy; and your skin may become rough, flakey or chapped, especially in cold, dry weather. Vata truly prefers to be in the heat and dampness when out of balance, Vata generates fear and anxiety. When in balance, Vata promotes creativity and flexibility.
